ST. PETERSBURG -- St. Petersburg police hope a major drug bust in their city will help bring the murder rate down.
According to St Pete police chief Anthony Holloway, a violent crime investigation uncovered a drug ring in the Childs Park neighborhood that was moving maarijuana and cocaine throughout Pinellas County.
21 people are facing charges... and Holloway says they're not done. Some suspects could be tied to unsolved murders from 2020. All but one of this year's 29 murders have resulted in arrests.
Detectives confiscated 127 pounds of marijuana, eight pounds of powder cocaine, and more than half a pound of fentanyl... enough, in fact, to deliver a lethal dose to 143 thousand people. They think this group was moving up to $120,000 worth of marijuana alone per week. They also took seven guns, one of which was stolen in a car burglary.
