Palm Beach County has scrapped a plan to create new building inspection rules.

It was something under consideration in the wake of the deadly condo collapse in Surfside, but now county commissioners say no recertification requirements will be enacted for high rises.

None exist now, but officials say state lawmakers are expected to create statewide building safety requirements during next year's Legislative session. Those could supercede local rules.

For now, county officials say anyone with a structural safety concern should reach out to their local building department or county commissioner. County officials will then send a structural engineer out to inspect the site.

The City of Boca Raton adopted its own recertification rules in August that are now the strictest on the books in the state.
