ORLANDO -- The mayor of Orange County is prepared for a battle with the state over a vaccine mandate.
"To the governor or anyone else, I say these simple words: Bring it on," Jerry Demings told reporters.
Governor Ron DeSantis and State Attorney General Ashley Moody are supporting fired Orange County Fire Rescue Battalion Chief Stephen Davis, who was terminated after refusing to reprimand firefighters who refused to get a COVID shot. Moody has filed a brief in a case of firefighters suing over the vaccine rule.
Demings accused DeSantis of politicizing vaccines. "What's truly sad... and ridiculous... (is) that over 58,000 Floridians have died as a result of COVID-19, and the failed leadership in Tallahassee."
Demings says lawyers have told him the county's rules will stand up in court.
