Hillsborough COVID Cases, Transmissions, Hospital Stays All Go Down

TAMPA -- Health officials say COVID-19 cases and transmission rates are going down in Hillsborough County.

The local Health Department director, Dr. Douglas Holt, told the county commission Wednesday that the 7-day rolling average of cases is down more than 75 percent over the past month, and community transmission rates and hospitalization rates show similar declines.

Holt says most of the decline in transmission is due to more people having natural immunity after recovering from COVID.

Case rates among school-age children and young adults peaked in late August but are now down close to where they were before the summer spike.
