Gabby Petito Case: Search Enters 7th Day Saturday, NorthPort Holds Memorial

NORTH PORT -- The search for Brian Laundrie, Gabby Petito's fiance, is expected to continue through the weekend at Carlton Reserve.

A spokesman says nothing of note was found Friday, the sixth day of the search. Joshua Taylor with North Port police says the search will be focused on areas where Laundrie is more likely to be found.

Taylor says citizens and businesses are donating meals for the searchers, now numbering 75 from various law enforcement agencies.

North Port police got a report of gunshots around the Laundrie home Friday evening. They checked it out and found it to be false.

Residents of North Port are holding a memorial for Gabby Petito at a tree outside City Hall Saturday. The event called “Butterfly Wings to Heaven for Gabby,” takes place from 7 to 9 p.m. and includes a candlelight ceremony and the release of a butterfly. Petito's funeral is Sunday on Long Island.

Laundrie is accused of using Petito's debit card and PIN numbers after she died to steal about $1,000 from her accounts. This federal charge would enable law enforcement to take Laundrie into custody while they continue to investigate the Petito homicide.
