Tampa Bay Sandbag Sites Open Ahead of Fred

TAMPA -- Several Bay area communities are offering sandbags ahead of possible effects from tropical system Fred this weekend.

Concern about flooding is highest in coastal areas north of Tampa, where several areas have already seen heavy rains this year.

Hillsborough County: (8:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. limit 10 bags, show proof of residency)

Venice: Wellfield Park, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday. Sand and shovels, no sandbags. Empty bags may be found at Venice City Hall, 401 W. Venice Ave. and the Public Works Dept., 1350 Ridgewood Avenue.

Sarasota County: (10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, self-serve)
