A South Florida appeals court has ruled that people can take videos of police in public, after hearing the case of a woman who was suing the Boynton Beach Police Department for false arrest.
Sharron Tasha Ford recorded officers outside a movie theater in 2009 and was arrested for obstruction, but the charges were dropped.
She was taping officers when they summoned her after stopping her son for sneaking into the theater.
The West Palm Beach-based 4th District Court of Appeal reversed its decision from May that Ford should not have been recording the officers. This time around, the three-judge panel unanimously ruled that police officers have no expectation of privacy when they are performing their duties in public.
