In the wake of the assassination of Haiti's president, some missionaries are leaving the country.

Joe Karabensh is President of Fort Pierce-based Missionary Flights International. He says a plane flew down to Haiti Friday to pick up some people who are fearful and want to return to the U.S.

The group is also bringing supplies, including Bibles.

"We want to teach them about who Jesus Christ is, meet their physical needs yes, but also tell them that there's eternal life."

The country has been in a state of Marshal Law since the assassination. Karabensh understands the dangers involved.

"We do have personnel on the ground that can communicate with us if there's something that flares up."

The faith-based organization flies to Haiti twice a week to bring supplies and spread the word of God.

Friday's flight will bring back nearly 2 dozen missionaries and their families. Karabensh says the plane will return in the afternoon and the next flight heads to Haiti early next week.
