TAMPA -- Florida's county supervisors of elections are meeting for the first time since the Legislature passed a new law affecting their reason for existence... voting.
The association is holding its annual summer meeting at the Water Street Marriott in Tampa.
Florida's top elections official, Secretary of State Laurel Lee, will attend the meeting Tuesday along with her office's top elections expert. Together, they'll explain what is and is not allowed under the law signed into effect by Governor Ron DeSantis earlier this year.
Outside the meeting, groups that believe there was widespread cheating in the 2020 presidential election plan to demonstrate.
One Facebook group called Defend Florida is organizing demonstrations for each day of the conference, which runs Sunday through Thursday.
They object to the presence of certain makers of voting machines as vendors at the conference. But one post urged protesters not to make signs mentioning those vendors' names for fear of defamation lawsuits.
One of those companies, Dominion Voting Systems, is suing Fox News over several interviews in which speakers falsely accused it of conspiring with Democrats and hackers to flip millions of votes from former President Trump to President Biden.
Among those expected to attend are former South Florida Republican congressional candidate Laura Loomer.
