ST. PETERSBURG -- St Petersburg is getting ready to narrow down the list of developers for the Tropicana Field site.
Mayor Rick Kriseman selected four finalists to redevelop the site earlier this year. His office now says in a memo that he'll narrow the list down to two within the next seven days.
City council will question the two firms and the city will invite the Rays to sit down with them.
In a memorandum, Kriseman says he believes the city can move forward with redevelopment even while awaiting more certainity about the Rays' future. He says delaying the redevelopment process and negotiations with a master developer will hinder the process of stadium discussions with the Rays.
