(Tallahassee, FL) -- The governor is addressing what he calls an immediate threat. Governor Ron DeSantis yesterday declared a State of Emergency over the Colonial Pipeline cyber attack. The 30-day order will ease restrictions to allow more trucks to deliver fuel to parts of the state experiencing shortages. DeSantis is also calling on the White House to get more involved to help mitigate the situation.
The gas shortage is hitting parts of the Florida Panhandle particularly hard. GasBuddy is reporting 73% of gas stations in Pensacola have run out of fuel.
The EPA has issued a fuel waiver so gasoline can begin flowing again to pumps in the region. GasBuddy says 44-percent of stations in Tallahassee are without fuel and 15-percent of Gainesville stations have run dry. Statewide, the company said 4.6% of stations were without gas as of this morning.
South Florida does NOT get its gas from the Colonial Pipeline and drivers are urged to stop hoarding ahead of the pipeline restarting later this week.
