Hillsborough School Board Approves Financial Rescue Plan

TAMPA -- Hillsborough School Board members have voted to approve Superintendent Addison Davis's plan to use federal money to close the budget gap and begin rebuilding its state mandated reserve.

Deputy Superintendent Michael Kemp told board members the school system isn't out of the woods yet. " The pressure is on us to ensure that we find new revenue sources moving forward and that we continue with the cost controls. This is not a one and done deal."

Only one board member, Jessica Vaughn, voted against the plan. The board also voted to create a financial oversight committee. But it chose not to create a separate improvement plan for Superintendent Addison Davis, who's been criticized for his handling of budget cuts and layoffs. Instead, the board will address Davis' performance during the ongoing review process.
