Dr. Patricia Hastings, Chief Consultant for VA’s Post Deployment Health Services, joined AM Tampa to discuss airborne hazards and open burn pit registry, helping provide better care to all Veterans.
Exposure to airborne hazards during military service is a serious concern for many Veterans and active-duty service members.
By joining the registry, Veterans can provide information that supports ongoing research and helps VA provide better care to all Veterans. It can also help identify health concerns and discuss them with a health care provider even if they aren’t experiencing any symptoms or illness.
The registry is currently open to Veterans and service members who were deployed to the Southwest Asia theater of operations after August 2, 1990 or to Afghanistan or Djibouti on or after September 11, 2001.
The VA is working to expand registry eligibility to cover other countries where these types of airborne hazards were common.
