TAMPA -- At his pre-Super Bowl news conference, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell praised the way Tampa officials have handled the hosting duties for the big game, in the face of the pandemic.
"At every challenge, as we looked and challenged them, they came up with solutions... this community has done an outstanding job," Goodell told reporters. He said Tampa's performance reflects the "can-do" attitude of the city and the Super Bowl host committee.
Goodell acknowledged that the COVID-19 situation and travel cutbacks have deprived businesses of some of the revenue they might have derived from the big game. Responding to a question from the Tampa Bay Times, Goodell said decisions about future Super Bowls are made by the owners, but that and Tampa's performance under trying conditions are likely to influence decisions about future locations for the championship game.
