VENICE, FL (WFLA News) -- A Florida man is facing charges after deputies say he killed a chihuahua with a tile scraper, and threatened to do the same to a woman.
Sarasota sheriff's deputies say Aaron Merwine, 27, told them there was "a strong magnetic force between him and the dog and the dog had to go." That was after they say he tried to grab or shove a deputy who arrived at the scene Saturday night. The arresting deputy,
A witness says she saw Merwine strike the eight-pound dog five times with the scraper.
A woman says Merwine threatened to attack her with the same scraper. The sheriff's office report says he appeared to be "under the influence of an intoxicant."
Merwine faces five counts of aggravated cruelty to animals and one count of domestic aggravated assault. He's in the Sarasota County Jail pending $120,000 bond.
