SANFORD, Florida (WFLA News) -- Some real life detective work by NCIS and local cold case investigators in the Orlando area solves a 35 year old murder mystery.
Naval recruit Pamela Cahanes was found dead in her underwear at a vacant home in Sanford in August 1984... just two days after graduating from basic training in Orlando, which at that time hosted a naval training center.
Improvements in DNA technology and forensic genealogy led investigators to a Navy veteran living in Jacksonville. Seminole County detectives arrested 59 year old Thomas Garner Wednesday. He's jailed without bond on a first degree murder charge. The investigators who broke the cold case joined Cahanes' relatives in Minnesota to watch as deputies made the announcement.
