UCF Student From Sarasota Busted Over Bump Stocks

ORLANDO (970 WFLA) -- A student at the University of Central Florida in Orlando is facing charges after campus police say they found an AR-15 rifle modified with a bump stock to be fully automatic.

Following up on a tip, UCF police searched the car of sophomore engineering major Max Chambers, 20, who hails from Sarasota. They reported finding an AR-15 with a bump stock. They say Chambers told them he knew the modification was illegal under state law, but said he "doesn't like laws."

Florida lawmakers outlawed bump stocks last year, in response to the Parkland massacre that killed 17 people at Stoneman Douglas High School.
