Clearwater, Fla. (NewsRadio WFLA)-A project to turn wastewater into drinking water is delayed indefinitely. The city of Clearwater has already studied the process for ten years, beginning with a feasibility study and then a pilot facility to test the technology.
After over six million dollars being invested, higher-than-expected building and operation costs stalled the project. Clearwater City Council has approved spending two million dollars on a planning study that could help determine the next steps for the project.
So far there are no facilities in the Sunshine state that treat wastewater so that it can become drinking water, but several cities have pilot studies underway.
