A sinkhole has opened up in Stuart and it's causing traffic delays.

The Martin County Sheriff's Office says the estimated four-foot wide and five-feet deep sinkhole is in the left turning lane of Cove Road at Federal Highway.

The Florida Department of Transportation is on its way to assess the severity of the sinkhole.

Meanwhile, traffic has been blocked off.

The Florida Department of Environmental Protection says sinkholes are fairly common in Florida due to the state's unique landscape.
