Is Pres. Trump's Encouragement Of Floridians To Vote-By-Mail A Reversal?

President Trump is encouraging Floridians to cast their ballots by mail, something being reported widely as a reversal of sorts.

The President tweeted on Tuesday that in "Florida the election system is Safe and Secure" and that he encourages "all to request a Ballot & Vote by Mail!"

The president, since his tweet went out, continued to blast universal vote-by-mail.

Florida requires voters to request mail-in ballots before elections officials can provide them. Some states are attempting to mail out ballots to every voter, regardless of who requests them.

In Florida, a so-called "no-excuse" absentee-voting system was adopted in 2002. In 2016, the state switched the name from "absentee" to "vote-by-mail."

The top prosecutor in Trump's hometown of Palm Beach, weighed in on the tweet Tuesday.

Palm Beach County State Attorney Dave Aronberg, a former Democrat state senator, questioned whether this "reversal" could have something to do with Democrats "being up by more than 600,000 vote-by-mail requests" in the state. He referenced the president's previous comments regarding the mail-in ballot system being linked to fraud as "false attacks" which have "backfired."

The Republican Party of Florida is backing up President Trump, tweeting that the president "mailed in his ballot in the past and will likely do it again. Request your Vote-by-Mail ballot today!"
