Boater's Body Found in Myakka River

Sarasota County, Fla. (970 WFLA) - The body of a man on-board a boat that capsized on the Myakka River yesterday morning has been found.

Fish and Wildlife Officers recovered the missing boater's body around 5:30pm.  Investigators say the man along with two teens were on a Jon boat near North Port when it flipped over.

Another boater passing by saw the boat capsized and called 911.

Officers say the teens had their life vests on and were able to swim through shallow water to a sandbar and mangroves.  They were rescued by a Good Samaritan.

One of the teens has been identified as the grandchild of the man that died.

FWC is now investigating what caused the boat to capsize leading to the man's death.  They have anchored the boat in place as part of that investigation.

Officers have not said whether the man was wearing a life vest at the time.
