Red-Light Runner Kills St. Pete Motor Scooter Rider

St. Petersburg, Fla. (970 WFLA) - A woman died after a car ran a red light and struck the scooter she rode early Sunday, police said.

Vallis Ann Oswain, 58, rode north on 8th St. North into the intersection of 5th Ave. North just before 2:30 a.m. when Harshit Srivastava, 30, drove his Volkwagon Jetta through the red light and into Oswain's path, according to a news release from St. Petersburg Police. Her scooter struck the driver's side of Srivastava's car and threw both her and her passenger, Daniel Jay Foreman, onto the road.

Oswain was pronounced dead at Bayfront Health St. Petersburg. Police did not report Foreman's condition or injuries. They did say that impairment did not play a role in the crash.
