Former Polk Sheriff's Worker Arrested

Winter Haven, Fla.-(Newsradio 970 WFLA)-A former Polk County Sheriff's Office telecommunications worker has gone bust on drug charges.

Investigators say they got information that 41 year-old Gwendolyn Laughery was in possession of illegal drugs. Deputies searched the woman's car and found a glass bowl containing methamphetamine and two glass pipes.

Detectives say Laughery admitted she'd been using meth and marijuana for the past three to four months. Laughery resigned during her conversation with the detectives.

Laughery was hired by the Polk County Sheriff's Office in 1994 and then started working in the Telecommunications Center in 1996.

As a result of the investigation, detectives met with Laughery's boyfriend at his Winter Haven Home and found drugs.  Thirty six year-old Jeremy Owens is now also facing drug charges.
