Weeki Wachee, Fla. (970 WFLA) - A drunk driver struck and killed a man lying in the roadway shortly after midnight Saturday, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
Troopers say that Darry Glenn Champion, 55, of Brooksville noticed the man lying on Bourassa Blvd. near US-19 and tried to stop his Chevrolet pickup truck, but could not. Paul Nicholas Leftwich, 38, of Weeki Wachee "suffered fatal injuries at the scene of the crash," a news release from the FHP said.
Champion faces a charge of DUI.
