Florida Utilities and PSC Review Hurricane Plans

TALLAHASSEE (610 WIOD) -- The Public Service Commission is meeting Tuesday to discuss hurricane preparedness for electric utility companies in the state.  They regulate Duke Energy, Tampa Electric, Florida Power & Light and other electric companies in Florida.

The PSC consider recommendations for improved hurricane preparedness and power restoration following last year's Hurricane Irma.  The goal is to identify potential areas to reduce outages and improve restoration times.

Commissioners are expected to review each utility company's storm hardening projects to improve system resilience.  After a quiet 10 years with out a major storm making landfall, it's the PSC's first opportunity to gather performance data.
