Hillsborough school board members say no to arming teachers

Hillsborough County school board members are having a letter drafted to send to Governor Rick Scott indicating that they don't support arming teachers.

A school safety bill which was approved by the state senate this week would allow school districts the option of allowing certain school faculty members to be armed on campus.

Under the plan, those staff members would volunteer and have to complete 144 hours of training.

During Tuesday's Hillsborough school board meeting, board members say they want to take a stand against the measure and oppose allowing school staff to carry weapons on campus.  Board members say they'd rather see more funding to hire additional school resource officers.
