Tampa Police Fatally Shoot Machete-Wielding Man

Tampa, Fla. (970 WFLA) - Tampa Police shot and killed a man threatening a teenage relative with a machete Saturday night, they said.

They got a call just before 7 p.m. and got to the home at 1805 North Marvy Ave. to find Sidney T. Richardson IV in a room with his 17-year-old cousin Jessica Marsh. Richardson, 48, held a machete, police said, and refused shouted commands to drop it.

An officer tried tasing him, but Richardson still did not loose grip on his weapon, police said. One officer, which TPD has not identified, fearing for the safety of officers and the girl, opened fire and fatally shot Richardson.

Neither the officers nor Marsh suffered any injuries.
