Venice Man Charged With Selling Fentanyl

Venice, Fla. (970 WFLA)- The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office arrested a 38 year old Venice man for maintaining a nuisance dwelling after he allegedly sold methamphetamine and fentanyl out of his  home.

Sheriff detectives tell Newsradio 970 WFLA, they began their investigation after receiving more than a dozen complaints about possible drug activity dating back to November 2016 from a home in the 300 block of Hillview Drive. Residents reported to detectives, vehicles and bicycles were often seen coming and going throughout the day at the home of Michael Layton.

Through investigation, detectives confirmed three separate drug transactions in which Layton sold fentanyl twice and methamphetamine once.   Also discovered during the investigation was Layton's driver's license which expired in 2006.

Tactical Unit deputies took Layton into custody and charged him with a single count of Maintaining a Nuisance Dwelling and Driving with a License Expired More than 6 Months. 

Layton has been released from jail after posting a  $1,720 bond.
